These centres are not only places of worship but also venues for community programmes, learning, and service. The Karachi Jamat (local administrative body) operates out of Faize Hakimi, which serves as a major centre for religious, administrative, and community functions.
Key Neighbourhoods in Karachi
- The Dawoodi Bohra community in Karachi is spread over approximately 18 neighbourhoods.
- One of the most significant community centres is located in North Nazimabad, where a Jamaat Khana supports religious programmes, education, and communal gatherings.
- Shabbirabad and Saddar are other historically important neighbourhoods for the community in Karachi. The community is inhabited significantly in Clifton and DHA as well with a community center in DHA Phase 8.
- Over the years, the community has continued to grow and prosper, and as a result, members have settled in numerous cities across Pakistan beyond Karachi, including Hyderabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Abbottabad, Lahore, and Quetta. Today, Pakistan is home to more than 35,000 Bohras, forming one of the largest regional communities of Dawoodi Bohras worldwide.
Tayyebi Jamaat Khana
One of the oldest and most storied centres is the Tayyebi Jamaat Khana on Shahrah-e-Liaquat. Built nearly 100 years ago, this centre has hosted significant religious and social events, including Ashara Mubaraka. It remains a symbol of the community’s historical and cultural continuity.
